Overview

The sustainable development goals (SDGs) will require significant financing. Governments across the world are increasingly looking at ways of working with the private sector in order to meet financing needs. They will need to find ways of maximizing the contribution of these actors. This will depend on ensuring that activities undertaken conform to high standards of sustainable development, including ensuring social and environmental justice.

This discussion paper provides initial ideas for how to do this by proposing a set of principles to assist governments in applying best practice, international standards and learning more systematically to help ensure the best outcomes for sustainable development.
