The Association for Women's Rights in Development (AWID) will hold its 13th international forum from 8 - 11 September 2016. AWID is a global, feminist membership organisation committed to achieving 'gender justice and women's human rights by strengthening the collective voice, impact and influence of global women's rights advocates, organisations and movements'.
Oxfam is a member of this organisation. Every three to four years, AWID hosts a global forum that brings together around 2,000 participants from a broad variety of movements and sectors, to collectively strategize and mobilise for women's rights. Oxfam attended the last forum held in Turkey in 2012. AWID provides a platform to share knowledge and information from a feminist perspective that can be used to support women's rights movements and a more just development agenda. The forum represents an opportunity for Oxfam to strengthen its work on gender justice and women's
rights, give visibility to our commitment to addressing gender justice and women's rights to end poverty and achieve social justice, and build partnerships with WROs.
The 2016 forum will focus on "Building Feminist Futures" with the objective of establishing more effective ways of working together.
