Tim Forster

Regional WASH Advisor for Middle East and Commonwealth of Independent States (MECIS)

Office Location: Oxford, UK

Tim has over 20 years of practical emergency and development field experience in the water and sanitation sector. After working for a number of organisations, including VSO, MSF and the Red Cross, Tim started full-time with Oxfam GB in 2003 and has since been involved in responding to humanitarian crises, as well as being involved in designing a number of development and research projects. Tim has also been involved with the IASC WASH Cluster, being seconded on several occasions to UNICEF to lead WASH sector coordination in major emergencies. Tim has also assisted several Oxfam country teams to develop dedicated sanitation programmes, including a Sanitation Marketing project in Democratic Republic of Congo. Tim recently undertook a feasibility study for an urban sanitation programme in Chad.

Tim also set up the inter-agency "Excreta Disposal in Emergencies - A Field Manual" project, and has also been active in writing and editing several Oxfam technical guides related to water, sanitation and hygiene. Tim has been a member of Red R (Registered Engineers for Disaster Relief) since 1997, and is an active member of Disaster Waste Recovery (DWR), a non-for profit providing waste management expertise in emergencies.

Currently, Tim is working as a Regional WASH Advisor for Middle East and Commonwealth of Independent States (MECIS), helping countries in the region develop their WASH portfolios, particularly transitioning from humanitarian WASH interventions towards longer-term WASH governance.
