John is the country director for Malawi, with over 20 years' experience working in INGOs. His role provides strategic leadership of Oxfam's programme in Malawi, including providing effective management and monitoring, evaluation and learning of the programme; representing Oxfam and country programme within Malawi, the region and globally; building relationships and developing networks with local partners and other actors; and working with the Malawi Country Leadership Team to ensure that minimum standards are met at country level. He also leads on humanitarian response within
Malawi, and on Malawi advocacy issues, including handling policy issues and how it affects the vulnerable people in Malawi.
John spent six and a half years with ActionAid before joining Oxfam in 1997. His experience spreads across long-term development, programming, advocacy and humanitarian work, as well as in developing, implementing and managing monitoring and evaluation systems. He also has experience in direct and partnership programme delivery, and working with different institutional donors, civil society organisations, government partners and local community-based organisations. John has worked in several countries, including Armenia, Sudan, Afghanistan and Malawi.
John holds a Master of Arts in Rural Development from the University of East Anglia.
