The Whose Economy? seminar series was held in Scotland in 2010 – 2011, with the purpose of providing a space for researchers, representative organisations, policy-makers and people with experience of poverty to come together and explore the causes of poverty and inequality in today’s Scotland. This paper introduces the seminars and sets out the areas covered by the papers produced by the seminar speakers. These examine, among other things, the roots of poverty in Scotland; the growing exclusion and health inequalities; unemployment and in-work poverty; and the role of community cohesion, sustainability and empowerment in anti-poverty policy.
