Overview

This evaluation is presented as part of the Effectiveness Review Series 2016/17. The ‘South Sudan Peace and Prosperity Promotion Programme’ was selected under the ‘Livelihoods’ thematic area. The project aimed to improve food security and income of vulnerable households, build conflict transformation capacities and build government and community capacities, to promote safety.

This assessment focuses on the impact of the activities implemented in Rumbek Centre County in Lake State between June 2014 and December 2015. It used a quasi-experimental evaluation design, comparing households that had and had not been supported by the project. Statistical tools of propensity-score matching and multivariate regression were used at the analysis stage to control for observed differences between the two groups before the project started. The results provide evidence that the project had an overall positive impact on income, measured through household overall consumption and an asset-based measure of wealth.
