Irungu is the the Pan Africa Director for Oxfam GB in Kenya. He has sixteen years' experience of national, continental and international advocacy at a managerial level in Africa and globally. He currently manages a multi-year campaigning budget of GBP two million and a team working in Addis, Dakar, Pretoria and Nairobi with expertise in essential services, women's rights, protection of civilians from conflict and democratic governance.
In 2007, he was nominated among others by President John Kuffuor in his capacity as Chairperson of the African Union, to review the performance of the African Union (2003-2007). This 230 page report was adopted by African Heads of States and Ministers of Foreign Affairs during the Ordinary Session of the African Union Summit in January 2008.
Irungu is a post-graduate student of African history and political science from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, England.
