Akhter manages the long-term and humanitarian response programmes, Policy Advocacy and Communication, ICT and Development portfolios for Oxfam in Bangladesh. He is responsible for leading the thematic areas of climate change and resilience, economic empowerment and youth entrepreneurship development, livelihoods, gender and women's transformative leadership, private sector engagement, research and knowledge management. Akhter has been working in program management and leadership positions at local and national levels, as well as engaging in strategic leadership and policy advocacy
roles in the development sector since 1991 and has worked with Oxfam for over 15 years in different roles at country level and in the South Asia region. He has an MSc degree from the University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh (1988)and a post graduate diploma from the University of Birmingham, UK (1995).
