Maya has worked as a humanitarian and conflict policy adviser since 2010. She works primarily on African issues, with a current focus on the Sahel region of West Africa, and Somalia.
Her work covers areas such as the protection of civilians in conflict, improvements in the quantity and quality of humanitarian aid, food insecurity and resilience. She also serves as default cover for the humanitarian and security issues team leader.
Maya first joined Oxfam as a policy adviser in Juba, South Sudan in 2008. Prior to that, she worked for the International Crisis Group, a conflict prevention think tank in Nairobi, London and Brussels. She spent three years living in Kenya and South Sudan, with short stints to northern Uganda and eastern DRC.
She holds a BA from the University of Cambridge and a Masters in International Relations from Sciences Po, Paris.
